What’s one day?

18 08 2009

It’s 8.50AM on Tuesday, August 18th.  We should be in the air over Tennessee.  We are not.  Let me qualify this as much as I’m able to with a short recap of the past 12(ish) hours.

There were a few mini meltdowns which culminated in a mega meltdown last night doing all of the last minute packing.  I do this to myself.  Jeremiah was done well in advance.  I finally ended up in bed after midnight with a 4.45AM wake up plan.

This morning I turned my attitude around and we were out the door on time with tear-less and heartfelt goodbyes to Tallulah the dog and Jane the sister.  We hauled all of our EIGHT bags into the terminal and waltzed up to the line-free ticket counter to hear a cheerful, “Passports, please!”

Ho. Ly. Sweet. Baby. Jesus.

I dropped the bag I was holding and flew out of the door to see if I could catch my mother who was speeding away with my purse in the backseat of the car containing both of our visas, money, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.  She was long gone and, as we soon discovered, her phone was on silent from seeing Julie and Julia the night before (it was very good, by the way.)  A long, hopeful, stressful 90 minutes later, she got back to the airport only 2 minutes after they shut the gate.  The Air Canada guy had sent out bags through and was ready to personally escort us.  I know.  Very exciting.

I called and was able to transfer our tickets to tomorrow for the bargain of $100 per ticket.  Truly, the best case scenario in a truly shitty situation.

Needless to say, we got donuts on the way home.  Let’s try this again tomorrow.

Oy vey! Proof positive that donuts make everything better! Does the offer of an escort still stand for tomorrow? That sounds like a movie script!
